After an almost 2 month hiatus due to Christmas knitting and other projects, I finished my Boatneck Bluebell this weekend! I am really happy with how it turned out! I changed to hem of the sweater at the hips to a k2p2 rib as Holly did, rather than use the purl rows, because I think it gives a nice finish to the sweater with less bulk. I also knit two sets of the purl stripes before and after each set of ribbing on the body and sleeves rather than three. I really like the Cascade Heathers, especially in this color. I am very pleased with this sweater! My next Fitted Knits will be the Alexandra Ballerina sweater, knit in Rowan soft tweed. I am looking forward to starting it! :)

i signed my new job contract today wearing this new sweater. i kept the look for the photo. i like how it looks great with a shirt underneath, who'd have thought? not i ...
in any case, i did not make any changes to the neck, it all fixed itself after i steamed the neck.
what i did for when i wear it on the skin is i sewed on cotton bands with "boutons pression" to hold my bra strings in place, hidden under the sweater.
i used the french self-striping yarn in marron. it was a fast and easy knit, the yarn was lovely to knit with.
all in all i am amazed at this "blue-bell", i had fears that the sleeves would get in the way although they look great in the book but the width is just perfect. i kept the three original bumping tiers at the bottom BECAUSE they will hide any eventual bulges from my bottoms like jean zippers, skirt pockets, etc.
thank you stephanie for a great design, i learned how to make darts with this one without doing the maths myself and it was a pleasure to just apply instead of designing for once, hehe.
hello,
i was wondering if any of you encountered a problem with their bluebell going ouwards at the top?!
Hi, I'm happy to join! My question pertains to the boatneck bluebell sweater, which I am knitting using the recommended yarn, Cascasde 220, but in a heather (colour 9451). I am almost done the body and soon to start the sleeves. I am making the 36.5" bust size, and successfully got gauge on on the US8 (5mm) needles. Instead of the 18.25" shown in the illustration for the bust, I am getting 16"! I am scared that it'll be too small. For those of you who have knitted it, did you note, after you were done, that it actually comes out smaller than expected? Hopefully it'll stretch fine and still fit snug...
Here is a progrss picture of my boatneck bluebell. I am really enjoying knitting this! I would be further along, but also have finished three hats and a scarf for gifts while knitting this. I decided to do two sets of purl stripes at each area rather than the three the pattern calls for, and I like the result. I tried it on, and so far it is fitting perfectly!
I just wanted some opinions on some shaping I am adding. To start with, I am knitting this sweater between the 33 and 36 1/2 sizes as I am about a 35. so I repeated the raglan rounds 18 times. I have followed the pattern to the end of the body decreases adapting the spacing to accomadate my extra stiches, now my alterations. I knit an extra 5 plain rounds before starting the rings as I didn't want the rings starting too high and then I carried on knitting until the end of the ribbing as it was hard to judge if it really was to wide on the back when trying it on without the ribbing as I knew the ribbing would pull it in a bit. I found that although it fitted perfectly between the end of the decreases and the top, and the ribbing was ok, the plain rounds in the middle and the rings were too baggy and I know knitting the smaller size would be too tight on the arms and bust, so I have ripped back to the bottom of the bust decreases and am continuing as follows (bear in mind I needed the extra 5 rows so I have 13-14 rows to play with) here is what I have come with to replace the patterns 9 rounds before the rings.
Row 1 and all uneven rounds-knit to 2 sts before centre back marker ssk slip marker k2tog, knit to end
Row 2 and all even rounds-knit
work a total of 8 rows of extra back decreases then I'll do a few more plain rows.I hope I have made sense, but when I tried it on I did think it was too big round the back, anyone else have this problem or am just a weird shape? I think this is working though and the ribbing will be fine as it has a bit of give in it. This should match my stitch count to the smaller size which is fine for my waist

Hi,
This photo doesn't do it justice, and the two greens in the solid part do not contrast nearly that much, but this will give you the general idea of my finished object. Click on the photos to see them larger. I used the yarn from the pattern, Cascade Jazz and Cascade 220. The body goes very quickly because of the chunkiness of the yarn, it's the ribbed parts that take time. I ripped out and redid the button hole band and it came out better the second time. The only problem--I may have to move to a colder climate to get more use out of it. Next up: Two-Toned Shrug and a possible Bluebell Boatneck.
I'm going to see how many projects I can do from this book! Wendy
Hello! I just joined this knit-along, and have started on the Boatneck Bluebell sweater in a lovely color of Cascade 220 Heathers, 9451 (called Lake Chelan Blue) - it is a very pretty teal with flecks of green - and doesn't photogrpah well at all!
I am really enjoying the pattern so far, and I'm encouraged by the other great bluebells posted here.
:)
