Bold and Bulky Mini Cardi

FO Bold and Bulky Mini Cardi

Here she is....I must admit, I do like her.  She has everything I don't like about knitting:
~acrylic (wool blend) yarn
~super-bulky yarn
~large needle knitting

In spite of that, I like the finished product. I have yet to find buttons that work...but, I don't care so much. I may wear it without the buttons!

Pattern:  Bold and Bulky Mini Cardi
Yarn:  Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick 2 skeins (MC) Cranberry 1.25 skeins (CC) Charcoal
Needles: sizes 13, 11, and 10
Size: small 38"
Mods: I did 4 extra MC rows at bottom before switching to CC....I didn't like how it fell right at bottom edge of the girls...felt weird. Also, my gauge was a bit off, I should've used size 15 needles...but I am nowhere near a 38" chest...even with my fantastic new bra! I just figured it would work out...and I was right.

Oh, here I am,  actually attempting to smile...and it doesn't look so fake...right?!

FO Two-Tone Ribbed Shrug and new WIP

I really enjoyed knitting this.  The raglan increases...love them, the ribbing increases...love them, too!
I know I will wear this a lot, as my favorite knit so far is the OSW and this is very similar...grown-up version.  I'm thrilled with how I didn't mess up anything on this one....there's a first!

Yarn: Cascade 220 The Heathers 1 skein MC 1 skein CC
Needles: size 5 alum. circ. for body and size 3 bamboo circ. for ribbing
Size: 15"

I'm sure I will make another, different colors...maybe a solid.Fitted_knits_005a_smallFitted_knits_015_small

On to my new WIP - the Bold and Bulky Mini Cardi.  I just so happened to have some Thick & Quick in my stash (which I almost donated last week), but I decided to go with it.  I started yesterday and this is what I've done....also an easy, quick, enjoyable knit.  Well, except for using size 15 needles....hate that.

An introduction & a question from a new knitter

Hi,

My name is Sheena and I'm a new member of this KAL. I'm also relatively new to knitting - started with a 3-class intro to knitting in February of this year. I dove straight into more complicated stuff than perhaps I should have. :-) Plus, now I have a 2-month old daughter who demands a lot of attention!

I have just started the Bold & Bulky Mini Cardigan. I just started last night, and after about 10 rows, my eye fell on the "notes" section, specifically, the instructions for yarnovers. It says to wrap the yarn clockwise. I've always done yarnovers with wrapping the yarn as if to knit - bringing the yarn under the right needle, up in front, then over, which, as I see it, is counter-clockwise. So should I instead be bringing the yarn over in front of the right needle instead? It seems like that would make it
tighter. I finished the Drop Stitch Lace Tank a couple of weeks ago, and I think it looks looser than the pictures, even though I have a tendency to knit rather tightly.

Thank you for the invitation to join! And thanks in advance for your advice about the yarnovers!

Picking Up Stitches

Arrgh!   This will be my 4th attempt at picking up the correct number of stitches for the trim and buttonholes.  Seems there are more stitches to be picked up than there are spaces.  Has anyone else had this trouble?  I love the book and have already completed the Blue Bell Boatneck Sweater in a beautiful orangey-red and the Cozy V-Neck Sweater with Deep Ribbing in a tweedy brown.  Now if I can just get this one off the needles I can continue my ribbing (yeah) on the Back-To-School U-Neck Vest!  Any hints/suggestions would be appreciated.  I hate getting frustrated!!

Greetings

Hello to all of you.  I just bought Fitted Knits a week or so ago and have been going through my stash and trying to decide what to make first.  Last night I cast on for the B&B Mini Cardi.....with some modifications for the yarn I'm using (Chunky Misti Alpaca - maybe not the inexpensive version of this sweater but so SOFT and it'll be toasty warm).  Cross your fingers for me, I'm using a rather significantly different gauge so hopefully my math will hold up :-).

I'll have to add a picture or two after I pick up some new batteries for the camera.....maybe it'll be done by then since it's going pretty quick.

This is my first KAL and I'm looking forward to the virtual sharing.....happy knitting :-).

Here is Mine

A picture of the recently-finished Mini Cardi. I chose a burnt orange color. I love it, and it was fun to knit, however, my gauge was a bit off, and so it is a bit small for me. I will probably give it to a relative for xmas. One gift done, yay!Mini_bulky_cardi

First Project

This is my first Fitted Knits project. I've been lurking here for a while and finally have a chance to start something.

I'm making the Mini Cardi with some handspun, hand-dyed yarn I got on Etsy. I'm a loose knitter so I swatched and came up with 3 stitches to the inch on 11s. It must have been a combination of just moving, Veronica Mars on DVD and the excitement of finally using this new yarn that made me think of going down another needle size... Long story short, I started knitting using 10-1/2s almost finished the body, tried it on and thought, "wow this is small". So I frogged and cast on for the medium size.

Today, about a third of the way through the body, it hit me that I should have gone up a needle size rather than down... well, I guess I'll try it on and if it's still to small I'll be frogging again. I will probably have to knit a few extra rows to make it a good length...

Wish me luck and hopefully this knitting brain lapse will go away!

Bold and Bulki Mini Cardi

Knitprogress_003 Despite already having a  few projects for other KALs, I have cast on for another Fitted Knits project.  What can I say?  I couldn't resist.  I'm hoping this will be a quick knit as the other two projects from the book have been. More details on my blog.

Bulky mini cardi done

Minicardidone1

This was a great, easy knit. Started last Sunday night, finished early this morning (Saturday). I used the yarn recommended by the pattern, Lion Brand Thick & Quick, and just barely had enough of the green trim color (I didn't actually have enough to finish the sweater as written; I had to leave off the last purl row and had less than 4 yards left with that modification!).

I made the small size (advertised as 38" through the bust). This should be large on me (at a dimuntive 34"). I decided to take my chances, and even getting gauge, the sweater is actually a bit small on me. If you're going to knit this, don't be thrown off by what looks like big bust sizes. My only other tip to people is to bind off very, very loosely. Even having bound off loose, I can feel where the bind-off is tight. That might contribute to the small feel around the very bottom of the sweater. I probably will try to block this out a bit later to see if I can get the neckline to lay down a little more and maybe that will help the size a bit as well.

All and all, definitely a thumbs up.  If you want to see a few more final photos, be sure to visit my blog.

Just getting started

Hey everyone!  Robin was kind enough to sign me up for the KAL and I'm excited to get to know everyone.

Looking at the past posts, I've been very impressed with the projects people have completed and the great progress on so many different things.  I hope my stuff will be half as exciting!

I have lofty ambitions when it comes to the patterns.  On the tip from Carrie, I ordered my yarn for the Elizabeth Bennett cabled cartigan.  I'm also searching out the yarn for the textured tunic and think I've found a place in Maryland that may do the trick (funny I live in LA and can't find Lana Grossa locally!).   Now that I've seen  Shannon O.'s  short sleeve cartigan and  Adrienne's (modified) turtleneck tube neck I've also added those to my list (ok there are a few others on the list too but maybe I don't need to list every project in the book here).

Minicard1_2

Yesterday, with too much excitement to wait for yarn deliveries, I cast on for the bulky mini cardi.  I can tell this is going to be a sweet knit... fast!

Can't wait to see the progress each of you is making!

Trish
