Fitted Knits Along

Just (barely) in time for spring...

I'm done with the leaf-tie cardigan! Thanks to someone's advice on here, I made my leaf ties about half as big as the pattern instructed. Other than that, no modifications and I'm very happy with how it came out! I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece (lime light) instead of Indulgence.

  The tricky under arm, i picked up 5 stitches, then decreased 2 in the next row, and 3 (3tog, 2tog) in the one after. not as neat as i had hoped for but not too bad for a first project either

I got some gorgeous Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran in 21203 (a lovely warm blue) and I'll be knitting with 5.5mm needles. I haven't knit anything in the last 12 years or so... wish me luck!

Cropped Cardi With Leaf Ties

As you can see I've been busy making the Leaf Cardi from Knitty.

This book is firmly in my wish list!

It has been a joy to knit from the start, I have never knitted top down before and now I am hooked! I am knitting the sleeves in the round even though it says to not join the stitches....I simply can't see the reason why I shouldn't? That's what knitting socks does for you!

I have now almost finished the icord edging...loved every minute of knitting this cardigan, I think I would knit the icord from the inside out next time (next time??), it looks neater on the inside and rolls outwards rather than inwards

Fitted Knits Trunk Show

I was at Webs yarn store (utterly fabulous place if you've never been there) in Northampton, MA yesterday, and was delighted when I saw that they had a Fitted Knits trunk show!  I had a chance to try on several items that I had been thinking about making: the Cozy V-Neck Cardigan, the Two-Toned Ribbed Shrug, and the Cropped Cardigan with Leaf Ties.  I was especially hopeful that the last would look nice, as last week I bought some yarn to make it: Classic AL by Elsebeth Lavold, so it won't be as fancy  as the one in the book, but I think it will get a lot of wear. The Two-Toned Ribbed Shrug wasn't my favorite, so I am glad I never did buy yarn for it. (It may also have been that the one on show was a bit snug for me.)  I also didn't really have any plans to make the Elizabeth Bennett Cabled Cardigan, but it looked very nice on. The sleeves in whatever size it was (if only they'd mark the size on trunk show garments more often!) was a bit too long, so I'd have to watch out for that. There were also several other items from the book: the Turtleneck Tube Vest (couldn't exactly try this one on in the middle of the store), the Saturday in the Park dress (ditto), and the U-Neck Back to School Vest (which I've already made). I really wish they'd had the Carrie Cropped Cardigan. I am not sure how long the trunk show will be there, but you could always call and ask.

This is such a great KAL. I've been following the various projects with much interest. So, I've been really wanting to make the cropped cardi, but couldn't decide on the yarn. I finallly went with Cotton-ease (4 balls) and here's the result.

I opted not to have the leaf ties at all but I still need to figure out an enclosure (purely decorative since I've got an eye-hook fastener there).

This was a fun and easy knit. I believe I shall be making another one very soon.

First Fitted Knit!

This is my first Fitted Knit, and I love it! (can't wait to make more :-))
I had every intention of making this cropped cardi, as per pattern, but after having this dyelot issue, I didn't have enough yarn to finish the sleeves! ... but y' know, sometimes it's good to mess up, because after my initial gggrrrrrrrrr!!!, I think that I'll get a lot more wear out of this with the sleeves the way they are (it'll be great to wear inside air-conned buildings when the summer comes around!)

Cropped Cardi, Done!

It took a little over 3 weeks with a 4 day break when I got the boring part, but overall a quick, satisfying little knit.  I learned much on this one!  Top down raglan is magic, I really like knitting a "too small" garment because it fits better after a bath and applied I-Cord is fiddly.  At least for me.  I knit the 34.5 size and I have a 40" bust.  Go figure.  Here's the pics   

So, a few people have mentioned that the leaf part is ugly or too big or whatever.  I thought they gave the project a whole "never find that at walmart" look.  They might be imperfect, but I love them!

I am so hooked on the magic of a top down raglan!  This is nothing short of utter magic.  I've been at this sweater for all of 3 days now - it goes so fast!  I'm using Cotton Ease and this should be just a super fun knit.  I'm not having the sizing issues, so no mods so far.

WIP - cropped cardigan

Hi everyone, this is my first post here, but I've been reading and knitting along for a few weeks now.  I've made good progress and thought I'd share.  I'm using Knit Picks Andean Silk, and got gauge on size 7's.  This yarn knits up beautifully, the texture is smooth, and it shines a little because of the silk.  Its nice and soft too, and I'm looking forward to wearing it when its finished.  On to the photos!
