Drop-Stitch Lace Tank

a too-small, half-winged DSLT

drop stitch lace efforts So i finally finished my Drop stitch lace tank top. This is pretty miraculous considering I cleverly managed to lose Fitted Knits halfway through. Luckily I had just about managed to commit the stitch pattern to memory by then and was able to wing the top half. I made it out of Debbie bliss cathay which makes a lovely fabric. It's too small though - I was way too optimistic with the sizing. I cast on 136 stitches which is about the right size for a leprechaun. Am hoping it'll stretch out a bit, perhaps if i do lots of jumping around while wearing it or something. If you're one of the remaining 3 people in the world who haven't already made this top and are looking for more info, there's more details available on my blog.

FO: DSL Tank

Knitting_002OK so this has been done for awhile, and I needed to get a picture!  Well I finally got hubby to take a crappy, "I don't want to get off the recliner photo...Ugh

Anyway I really like the way this tank came out, so cute! I made the 32", and used the called for Cascade Pima Tencell which is super soft, and size 7 Knit picks options needles.  I did do it flat, I was going to do it in the round but since it was mostly ribbing, I decided just to do it flat. The only thing I wish I would have adjusted was maybe I should have done a 3 needle bind off on the shoulders. I also did one set of repeats before seperating the front, so I didn't have to add buttons.  I love the color too..

Another drop-stitch lace tank!

I finished my tank awhile ago, but then forgot to post it. Thanks to everyone who sent me advice about weaving in my ends. I used the recommended yarn, Cascade Pima Tencel, and knit the sucker flat. This tank was fun to knit, but I am excited to get back to sweater knitting for fall. Luckily I should get a month or so of wear out of the tank before the temperature starts dropping. I like the way the ribbing on the back of the tank keeps the top figure hugging. Without it, I think the top would look dumpy on my body. It took me awhile to find buttons small enough for the buttons holes I ended up with, they were real small. In all, not my favorite project from the book, but I still like it a lot, and think it will get a decent amount of wear.

Drop stitch lace in progress

I just joined this KAL and everyone's projects are so inspiring. I started a drop stitch lace tank in some dark red takhi cotton classic and it looks promising so far! I hope I get it done before the weather in New England gets too chilly...

Drop Stitch Lace Tank Dilemma

I am currently working on the DSLT in the round and am hoping somebody can help me.  I don’t know if this is relevant or not but I originally cast on 136 stitches.

I am at the point where I need to be working the front in the pattern stitch and the back is to be worked in ribbing.  Here is where I’m at a slight standstill.  After having starting working the pattern stitch I now have 151 sts on the needle.  Clearly, this cannot be divided evenly and I will have to work 76-77 sts for front/back.  So, my question is how many sts do I work?  In regards to the front, if I work 76 or 77 sts, I lose some of the pattern sts.  Do I work 72 or 80 sts in order to preserve the pattern sts? Or does it not matter?

Then there is the issue with the back, do you keep the ribbing pattern correct by eliminating the yo’s as suggested in the errata and if you do, don’t you end up losing sts?

I hope I at least made some sense.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

lets start another project

Even though I haven't finished my puffed sleeve cardigan, and even though I had planned to make the back to school vest next ,I now have the yarn for the drop stitch lace tank sitting on my desk. I went to the lys with a friend today and had no plans to buy any yarn but then I saw this basket full of wonderfully soft yarn in the perfect color. Its Cotton Ellite primere and it's a  pima cotton / tencil ,blend with the same yardage and gauge as the required yarn so I bought it. And it was cheap. Now I don't know if I should just follow the book directions or find someones previous post and knit it in the round. Obviously the advantage is not having to seam it but I'm worried about not having an actual pattern to follow.  I'm also not sure about the size. It looks like I'm in between two sizes. Any suggestions on both the size and construcion

my DSL tank, and a request for help

  drop stitch front
  Originally uploaded by Talula Marie.

Hi everyone! Here is my own drop stitch lace tank to add to all the good ones I've been watching over the last few months. I have finished the front and started on the back at this point. I've noticed that many of you have modified the pattern to knit in the round, but I stayed with the flat because one place where my skills are definitely lacking is weaving in loose cotton ends. They never stay put as well as wool. I am better at side seaming, and I figured it would be easier to hide the ends in those seams. But, of course, not all of the ends will be located in those seams even while knitting flat, and that is where my help request comes in. Does anyone here have any tips for weaving in cotton yarn ends and getting them to stay in place? Every time I have tried before, they have always come loose and made my work look ragged. What have you folks who have finished this tank done to keep your loose ends put? Any  ideas/tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

OH NO

Dsc02118 So I'm moving along with the DSL tank when OH NO I come to the realization that I'm going to run out of yarn! Panic! so I jump on WEBS site and order myself another skein...I hope they have the same dye lot left!  I sooo wanted to be done this week with this project.  So now I'm on hold to see if the dye lot matches or not.  I have about 4 inches left on the back and the the stitches along the neckline.  I'm going to wait to see if the dye lots match, if they don't I think I'm going to cut the yarn, pick up around the neck with the correct dye lot and then finish the back with the non correct dye lot so I won't see it when I wear it! Grin....keep your fingers crossed for me!

Opinions?

I am about to start the Drop-Stitch Lace tank and I have two questions for the group.

First, has anyone knitted the top with the drop-stitch pattern all over, leaving out the ribbing? I love the look of the dropped stitches, and I thought it might be nice to have the pattern all over.

Second, what size has everyone knitted? I'm a 34", so I was considering the 28" directions, but the pattern says *at least* 6" smaller than your measurements.

Thanks for any input you can offer.

Wow

So I started my first two-tone shrug since I was tired of ribbing on my DSL tank..now I'm to the ribbing on that.  It is such a fast knit! I started it on Sunday and already have the back done and the first sleeve almost finished...I'm further along than the picture shows. Dsc02067

I decided to make the 16" since my "pit to pit" measurement was 15" and shoulder to shoulder about 17" I figured I'd split  the difference. Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments!

Dsc02068_2I also worked on my DSL tank for while too.  So that is moving along too. I've told myself that I can't start anything new until I finish these.  We'll see how that goes!  I ordered yarn for the cozy v-neck pullover...
