Puff-Sleeved Feminine Cardigan

Finally, the Puffy is Finished

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I first posted about this project way back in August.  Since then, I got married, moved into a new apartment, and completely forgot about this cardigan.  It resurfaced again in January, and not wanting to have it on the needles for more than 6 months, I finally finished it.

As evidenced from my first post, I've had a few challenges with this project.  After two rounds of major frogging and lots of modifications from the waist on down, the result is a cardigan that fits my body beautifully.  The full modifications are outlined here.

All of the effort was worth it though, as I am extremely happy with the final cardigan and how it fits.  Once it gets a little warmer, I expect to get a lot of wear out of this!

Finished!!

I finished this last week but I've been too busy to post the pics. I think it may be a little too big around the arms but I can deal with that. I'm still learning how to fit my knits but I'm getting the hang of it. Next Fitted Knit project will be the Thick & Thin Coat. Wish me luck on the gauge change from 7sts=1" to 8.5sts=1".

I used Jaeger Matchmaker DK. The color name is flax.

Enh! To the Long-Sleeved Version...

Enh! And Blah! That is what I have to say to my long-sleeved version of the Fitted Knits Puff-Sleeved Feminine Cardi:

Can you say Dowdy, with a Capital "D" with me?   Dowdy!

Yes, we have the following descriptors for my long-sleeved version of this sweater: dowdy, schoolmarm-ish, down-right disgraceful, fugly, and just plain unattractive.

The upside?  It looks like I won't be worrying about matching dyelots for more yarn.  Unfortunately, I went ahead and ordered more yarn--bah!  Oh well, I suppose I'll be needing a beanie soon with fall scooting its way on in.

ETA 08/25/07: I do like the sweater, just not long-sleeved!  I also think I am getting a bit burnt out futzing with the sleeves--knitting them, ripping them back, making mods and knitting them again.  I am ready to finish this sweater and move on to another project.

After multiple knittings--first with seed stitch, then with Turkish stitch--and numerous ripping backs, I have finally finished the body of the Puff-Sleeved Cardi sans lace.  I substituted Turkish Stitch a la Barbara Walker's A Treasury of Knitting Patterns:

Turkish Stitch Pattern in Peplum

I have also made much progress and then much frogging on the left sleeve.  Unfortunately, I have wide shoulders so the poufy-ness of the sleeve shoulders isn't so much so.

Additionally, I do believe that I am going to have to cross my fingers and toes and hope that KnitPicks has more yarn in my dyelot as-- between my decision to make long sleeves and to increase the body length and despite considering such things when making the original order of yarn--it looks as if I am running out of yarn.  Aargh!

Is this too big....

I'm making the size for the 36'' chest.  I'm moving along to gauge for the most part (22 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches).  I was a little nervous when I saw the latest posting for this sweater.  I wonder if it will be too big for me once I add the button band.  I did intend to bring down the waist another 12 sts to make the rest of the sweater fit the 34" chest size (bigger in the upper).  It may be hard to tell from the picture but what do you guys think?

By the way, I love not doing this all alone.

Puffy Progress: The Bust Is A Bust

I am currently working on my second Fitted Knit, the Puff-Sleeved Feminine Cardigan, which I started knitting shortly after finishing the Two-Tone Shrug.  I am using the recommended yarn, Knit Picks Merino Style, because I happened to have 8 balls of the Mint color hiding in my stash.  That and the fact that I really liked the pattern made this a must-knit for me!

So far, I love this project.  The yarn is wonderful to work with and the color really pops.  I'm just over halfway done, having divided the sleeves a few inches ago.  Everything seemed to be on track until I tried it on tonight to find that the cardigan is too big.  Not monstrously so, but there is enough extra room in the bust area for me to wear another sweater under this one.  Wonderful.

At least I caught it early, so I will only have to rip out about 3" to get back to where I divided for the sleeves.  From there, I figured it should be fairly straightforward to start re-knitting the cardigan in a smaller size.  I hate to frog, but if it gets me a sweater that I like to wear, it will be worth it.

picking up for button band

The body of my puffed slaave cardigan is done and now I need to pick up the stitches for the button bands. I started last night but it looks odd. It said to use a smaller needle but I'm wondering if I should go back and try it with the original needle size because it looks" holey" or .. maybe I am picking them up wrong. I would love some words of wisdon from the group.

I'm a little dissapointed in it at the monent because I forgot there was going to be a button band and so I think it's going to be too big. I really need to go down a size with this book or re do my measurements maybe I'm smaller then I used to be.  All my projects from this book have been too big so far.

Puff-Sleeved Cardi Knitted Atop of Half Dome!

I'm knitting up a well-traveled Puff-Sleeved Feminine Cardigan.  Here it is at the very top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park!

Details:

  • Yarn--KnitPicks Merino Style in Storm.  L-O-V-E this color!
  • Size 5 needles rather than the suggested size 6.
  • Knitting up the size 36.
  • I will be adding long sleeves to this cardi as I get cold easily and live in San Francisco.
  • Happy, happy, very happy with this pattern thus far!

First FO I'm Willing to Admit to

Hiya. Been lurking for a while and finally decided to post something :)

Sweater Front View

I finished the Puff Sleeve Feminine Cardigan the other day and I'm really pleased with it. I've made two other projects from the book (airy lace wrap and Carie Cropped), but thanks to my own inability to follow directions, I'd rather keep those hidden .

Used Rowan Pure Wool DK in Parsley. This stuff is amazingly soft after it's been blocked, but I think the stiffer wool of the Knit Picks Merino would have made the puffed sleeves stand out more. Either way, I still love this pattern.

Next up is a Two Tone Shrug that I can do from stash. Still deciding on a color for the Cozy V-Neck :)

Puff is done

My pufPufff-sleeved feminin cardigan from "Fitted Knits" is done! *does the happy dance* I had to modify it a bit, since the lace pattern didn't work with the cotton yarn I chose, plus I hate high buttoning :D The pattern is a quick and friendly knit. I didn't have any bigger trouble with it, only with the yarn... I swear I will never ever buy it again: it splits, it slides, it goes on my nerves and is really a painful knit.
