It's about time I had another Fitted Knit completed - at long last, here is my spicy V-neck tee. I used Rowan Cotton Tape and made the smallest size, with modifications.
More pictures of the back and sides, as well as a close-up of the front, are on my blog.
I didn't follow the pattern instructions literally (with regard to the stitch counts, as I think some of them are messed up) but just "read my knitting" and did my yarn overs and K2togs/SSKs accordingly. I had tried to follow the instructions exactly and my yarn overs didn't line up. I did follow the instructions with respect to the waist decreases, doing them on the same rows that the pattern said to, but changed the hip shaping to do the increases every other row instead of how the pattern said to do them, to accomodate a shorter waist to hip length. Other than that, no changes! Love it!
All right, I've been struggling with the pattern for the spicy v-neck for a while now. I even had to put it in time out for a week or so. I finally figured out the body section shaping (the WFS and WBS business) and it seemed to work out perfectly. Then I got to the waist-shaping part and the whole thing blew up in my face. I'm somehow six stitches shy of her count. The front stitch count hasn't changed from when I separated the sleeves from the body, but the back stitches have--they had to, given the pattern, right? So why am I so off?
I'm knitting the 36 inch size, and at this point I'm supposed to have 103; I have 97. I'm tempted to just work the front straight until I get to the point in the pattern where I'm supposed to have 97 and go from there. Any thoughts?
Thanks to Kristina for her help on the Spicy Fitted Tee dilemma. It encouraged me to just kinda "wing it" and do what looks right. I am always hesitant to do that unless I get confirmation from someone else that the pattern as written is in error - I guess I don't have the confidence yet to just go with my instincts - but I'm working on that!!
So, I decided to try this on after body row 13 and see how it was fitting.
Overall, I like the fit so far. I think my row gauge is a little off (shorter height for the rows than they should be) but that may work with my body that's also shorter height than it should be (LOL). I also have a small mistake in the front where I messed up one of the eyelets, but I should be able to fix it pretty easily. The verdict - I'm going to "carry on" (channeling Tim Gunn from Project Runway....!)
I saw that a few people noted some issues with the spicy V-neck tee pattern. For those of you that made this, I am stuck on the instructions for the body section. "Stuck" may be an understatement. More like, "pulling my hair out."
Specifically, my issue is with Rounds 8 and 10: "WFS, WBS" in light of the overall instruction at the beginning of the body section. I would think that on these rounds, as they are even-numbered rounds, I should be continuing the lace eyelet pattern at the center front (fine, no problem, I know how to do that) and the three eyelet columns in the back.
The back eyelets are giving me the issues - for the size 34, Round 6 has you k10 before you do the first eyelet and K7 before each of the other two eyelets; Round 12 has you K10 for the first eyelet, but k6 before each of the other two.
My question is - should I follow the round 6 instructions for Rounds 8 and 10, exactly? (K10 before the 1st, K7 before each of the other two) or something else? What did you all do?
Also, general point - when you separate the sleeves from the body, the first section after the round marker should be the back, correct? So when it says at the beginning of the instructions on Rounds 1-6 WFS (work front straight) you are working on the back first so following the other specific instructions first (re: setting up/working the eyelets) - correct?
I'm so confused!!
I was thinking about what my next project is going to be from the book, and I decided on the Spicy Fitted V-Neck Tee. I'm going to use Rowan Cotton Tape in "bleached" (pure white) from my stash. I got gauge this morning on the first try with size 10.5 bamboo needles, so I'm taking that as a sign that I should cast on for it today! I can fit a few more summer knits in before it gets cold....
Putting on my administrator hat, we should all start thinking about the next prize giveaway - the drawing will be for knits completed in the "third quarter" - July 1 to September 30. If you haven't contributed yet to the Tip Jar in the right hand sidebar, consider doing so in the next month before we do the drawing. Any thoughts about whether we should keep the prize the same as the first drawing and/or any new ideas for prizes would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend! I will be at Stitches Midwest tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be stash-enhancing for future projects from this book and others...
Hi all:
This one is a bit more true to form than the last one I did. It is also just a tad too fitted... but that never stopped me from wearing anything before!

Yarn is Summer by Lana Gatto (on sale!), 6 1/2 50g skeins.
Well... I had seen someone knit up the Spicy Fitted V-Neck Tee on Craftster... and wow - talk about cute!! Although I am one that really liked the one in the book! Maybe it was the color? Anyhow - I decided to set aside all my other projects and cast on so I could finish the Spicy Tee in time to give it to my daughter who is leaving for several months... well - the women in our family are busty gals... so I cast on for a 40" or 42" (sorry I don't have the pattern in front of me) - and quickly found out that the pattern has a lot of mistakes in it! ugh! I did check the errata but I'm still finding mistakes - and it's slowing me down... but I'm trying to keep good notes so I can post them at a later date... another problem I am having is - the back is NOT turning out like it looks in the book... I'm trying to be as careful as I can and I've ripped back a couple of times - but something is wrong... needless to say - I'm about ready to take it off the needles and finish my other projects and find something else to knit quick for my daughter... anyone else have problems with this pattern??? sorry for the rant - I'm frustrated!
Hi all: wondering if anyone has endeavoured any substitutions for this. I have 2 skeins of Handmaiden Silk Spun (100 g = 150 m, stitch gauge = 15 sts per 4") in my stash which was purchased for a v neck tee. Then I saw this one.
The 2 skeins are enough quantity for the v neck tee pattern (which is also very cute and was designed by Haley at my LYS)... but the pattern calls for 600 g Cascade Bulky 109 (which I haven't used but which seems about the same as Brown Sheep Bulky and quite a bit thicker than the silk spun).
Any thoughts at all on whether the silk spun might work? (or, rather, whether I can get away with using it without having to buy any more?) I can probably get the stitch gauge by going up to 6.5 mm needles.
