Fitted Knits Along

Whew finally done!

I've been lurking around here checking out everyone's work while I've been knitting along.  I've finally finished mine!

Cap Sleeved Tee

This was actually my first fo project.  I did some extra shaping under the breast line to waist and still ended up having to throw it in the dryer to shrink it up a bit.  I think I've finally got the hang of it down though, Trying to factor  in my big shoulders/small breast combo it is key for me to check regularly for size before I separate for sleeves.  My current project is going much better.  This was knit in the Cascade sierra quatro with the edging in Cascade sierra.  80% cotton and 20% wool.

Teal Tee

Finally blocked and ready to wear! This was my first knit garment (besides the requisite scarf and hat). I used Cascade Pima Tencel in a pretty Tealy-blue color. It's a nice summer knit since it's mostly cotton with a little bit of stretch. I probably would have gone down a size if I did it over again, or even worked some center back decreases for more 'fit' around my waist. 

What to choose?

HI Everyone! I'm new and it's good to metcha!

Boy am I happy you're around! I'm using the Cap-Sleeved Tee as my 1st venture into a larger knitting world. So I suspect that I'll be posting A LOT for suggestions. I'm a competent knitter, I just tend to go my own road rather than follow a pattern. Well, I'm ready to be obedient for some of the beautiful patterns in this book. This leads me to my first question: I really want to do this in cotton. I have a favorite on-line yarn store (knitpicks.com) and I'm having a hard time matching gauge to their selection. Here's what I'd like to go with: "Cotlin" or "Main Line" (see http://knitpicks.com/seasonal+knitting+yarn_YL300111.html) . However, I'm concerned with the gauge (which seems similar) and the number of yards per oz.  What do y'all think? Should I try for another yarn?

Thanks for your help, I'm can't wait to get started! I'm going to go with a red body with a light blue trim.

almost done...

I did the neckline and sleeve edges early because I wasn't sure I would like the colors together.  Still not sure, and unfortunately the colors are not exact in these photos - sorry, I was having a hard time with my camera.  The colors are pretty close.  It's a sort of teal blue with an olive green trim.  I like them but I'm not sure I'll wear it and that's what's most important!   

 

I also had a hard time finding a decent clasp.  I found this one at JoAnn's in the jewelry section, but I'm also not crazy about it. That's about all they had.  Any ideas?  Maybe a bead store or a jewelry store?
The yarn I used is recycled from a sweater I made a long long time ago and doesn't fit anymore.  It's a really nice, soft, nubby cotton, but I have no idea what it's called.  It matched the recommended gauge perfectly though!

 

Swatched...

I just did a partial swatch - got gauge on size 6 LM ebony needles (I note that b/c different materials give me a different gauge a lot of times.)

The first pic shows the shininess of the second shade of pink...

However, the colors are more true to the second (blurry pic) but are still not 100% accurate. Think less Pepto pink, more hot pink/purple.

I was noticing as I swatched it that it actually exactly matches my nail polish today - OPI Pompeii Purple.

Cascade Invito Print - FOUND!

Check this out!!! I never saw this yarn ANYWHERE before (Invito print) and I found it today on my (local) "yarn crawl" today at Mosaic Yarn Studio. (Raising hand) I am a geek and like to knit patterns in the recommended yarns. Even though my goal for the long weekend is to finish up some of my projects, I simply HAVE to swatch for the Split-Neckline Cap-Sleeved Tee. I think this will look great with the Classic Elite Premiere (pima/tencel) that I found. They didn't have any Cascade Pima Tencel so I went with the Premiere as it was exactly the same composition and yardage as the Cascade version.

Split-Neckline Tee All Done!!

Hi everyone!!  I finished by split-neckline tee a week ago Sunday, but I just got a chance to get my picture taken.  I hope you like it.  I'm pretty pleased with it.  I made a few adjustments to this piece while making it.  I had to put in a few decreases on the sides, and also in the keyhole area as they were going to be too big.  The hardest thing to find was a clasp, but I finally was able to get one at Joann Fabrics.  I work in Philadelphia during the day, and let me tell you, I called all over and none of the fabric shops carry them.  Oh well, on to the next project. March 24, 2008 T-minus 10 days and I’m ALMOST done with it. I’ve hemmed the bodice and one sleeve. :) Will be ready by KITH. YES! I used 3.5 skeins of yarn.  You can't tell the colorway changes up close, but you totally see the different skeins on photo. The Picot Edging Crocheted Bind Off using a size J (6.00 mm) crochet hook. When I sewed down the picot hem, I used my Chibi tapestry needle to whip stitch half of the bound off edge stitch to its corresponding purl bump from the first color change round.     January 24, 2008 I'm still plugging away on the split neckline tee. It's mindless knitting. *sigh*  I knit on it while watching TV or sitting around somewhere. Still knitting...I'm a 1/3 of the way down the bodice now. I might actually have this completed in time for Knitting in the Heartland. *cheese*

                      

Saturday, June 30, 2007 I’m back on track now. I’ve started working the waist. I elected to use negative ease given the fact that I know cotton will stretch, so I went down a few sizes. Using my Knit Picks Options 24” cables with end caps as stitch holders for the sleeves.

                                             

Tuesday, May 22, 2007 So, I had to rip back to the join today. I had a nagging feeling that I wasn’t doing the raglan increases properly. Indeed, I had misread the directions for the raglan increase round kfb, knit to 1st before marker, kfb, sl marker. I was only doing the increase on one side of the marker instead of on both sides of the marker. It says very clearly at the top of the page that the brackets are the repeat operation. sigh Well, at least I caught it before I got too far along. Thanks to T and Joanna for verifying my mistake.
