Email vs. On-Site Responses

If you already know me from the Fitted Knits KAL and my blog, you know I always respond to comments/questions via email to the original questioner. However, on this KAL, I think I am going to start responding right on the conversation thread so that if someone else has the same question, they can also read the response.  That seems to be the approach they take on the Sexy Knitters Club site and it works pretty well - people just check back on the particular page they posted to originally to see if their question was answered.

Also, there is something called TrackBacks in Typepad, but I don't know how they work. I think they help you keep track of whether there've been additional comments on the thread.

New KAL member!

Hi all,

I'm new to the KAL. My name is Sharon and I do my blogging over at http://stitchinwitch.blogspot.com/.  I am really excited to start working on the Bed Jacket pattern.  I am fussing over which yarn in my stash to use as I think I am being so choosy because I want to keep with the muted or pale antique color.  I'll figure it out soon.  Choices are Knit Picks WOA in Tan, Jo Sharp Soho Summer in Cloudless (pale blue), or Classic Elite Spotlight in Antique Rose.  I would prefer to use my stash as it has grown to mammoth proportions recently.  I only have mild *rolls eyes* guilt about this.  LOL.

I can't wait to see everyone's progress. And a big shout-out thank you to Robin for hosting!

Shaped Lace Tee or Surplice Bodice Camisole First?

Hi everyone - I am soooo excited about starting tomorrow!! I have yarn for two patterns, and am not sure which I want to start first. I have wayyy more than this that I want to do eventually, but I'll start here as I do have yarn for these two. It took everything in me not to go on over to WEBS and buy yarn for about five more designs, but I'm trying to control myself, especially as I'm doing the dual KAL over at the Sexy Knitters Club and am still doing a bunch more designs from Fitted Knits. Anyway, I asked this on my blog too, but I want to hear what you all think:

Lace Shaped Tee (a/k/a Krista) in Cascade Pima Tencel 62907 001 62907 005

or Surplice Bodice Camisole in Elann Callista? 62907 002 62707 001

ETA: All of the categories are now in!!

As there haven't really been that many posts so far, I can classify the ones made to date. But if you get there first, feel free to categorize your own posts - and definitely do this going forward, once I have everything set up in the Category dropdown list. This will make it so much easier for people to find helpful info about the pattern(s) they've chosen to knit.  Note too that you can assign multiple categories to a post like I just did on this one.

Getting excited, and can't wait to hear which design you think I should knit first!!!

New KAL Member - so Excited!

Thanks so much to our wonderful host Robin for starting this here KAL.  I'm so jazzed to get started on this book!  It can't arrive in the mail soon enough.

The slightly boring personal introduction:

I'm Teresa, and I blog at canaryknits.  I'm absolutely obsessed with knitting and other crafty endeavours (and as my spelling of "endeavour" may reveal, I'm Canadian).  Recently I've moved to my own apartment, and am happily spending all my newfound grown-up time away from mom and dad quite fruitfully in pursuit of knitting beautiful items,  collecting a library of wonderful recipes and reacquainting myself with my guitar.

Since I don't have a copy-in-hand, I'm just assuming that silk yarn is called for/appropriate for some of the patterns.  I love working with it, and I actually have a bit in the stash (some Debbie Bliss Pure Silk in a yellow.  Very buttery!)

I was wondering if, in the collective knowledge of all the great knitters here, anyone knows of a silk yarn (preferably 100%, but a blend would be nice too) that doesn't break the bank. (this, I do realize, is probably a lot to ask).

If there's no such yarn in existence, what's the most inexpensive one that you've found?  Where did you purchase it?

Inspired to start

I'm glad to be part of this group and to have company working on the projects from this great book!  I've decided to start with the Shaped Lace Tee and ordered my yarn today, although to be honest I had a very difficult time deciding where to start.

Joan3
Joan visited one of our LYSs this weekend and brought scads of finished items for us to see.  They were amazing!  I've posted a few more pictures on my blog.

It is safe to say that they are even more beautiful in person than on paper.

Joan taught a toe up sock class after showing her wares and was great!  I think it's fabulous when the person making the patterns is just as great as the patterns themselves, and this was definitely the case with Joan.

I look forward to seeing everyone's progress!

Stitches Midwest and East Blogger Meet-ups

Shaped Lace Tee Sleeve Tip from Joan M-M

I don't know how many of you are also members of the Yahoo group Joan set up for the book, but she posted this yesterday and I thought I'd share with those of you who might not have seen this.  I thought that many people might find this helpful.

She says (referring to the Shaped Lace Tee):

For those who prefer a regular type of Tee shirt sleeve rather than a
cap sleeve, try this:

Cast on 9 more stitches than the size you're working on specifies,
work in pattern stitch A as directed, knit in pattern stitch B for 2",
then bind off for the underarms and follow the sleeve cap directions
as written until you finish, whereupon you will cast off 9 more
stitches than the directions say to for your size. The sleeve cap will
be larger as will the bicep, and you'll have a pretty, mid size sleeve
that will give more upper arm coverage.

I GOT THE BOOK TODAY!

Wow, I love this book!

I think I am going to knit the silk slip.

The pattern calls for White Lies Designs Interlude yarn (50% silk/50%merino wool) - 20 sts = 4".

Any suggestions for yarn substitutions?

July 1 is Almost Here!

Hi everyone,

I know I haven't posted much at all this last month with everything going on, but I am here and excited to get this KAL started! July 1 is less than a week away and I ordered yarn for the surplice lace wrap top (Elann.com Callista in "Tarragon" and the shaped lace tee (off white Cascade Pima Tencel).  I'll post pics when it arrives - any minute now!

I also wanted to let everyone know that Colorful Stitches is having a 50% sale on Vittadini yarns, including Celia which is used for the true lingerie type items (the bra and panties, and maybe a slip, I can't remember.)  I've never seen Celia for $5ish per skein, so I may be getting some of this myself.

I still need to type in categories for each of the patterns in the book, so that we can keep everything organized by pattern.  I also need to set up the "Tip Jar" for prizes.  If you are a member of the Fitted Knits Along, I'm thinking it can work similarly to that.  We won't have any drawings until at least a few months from now - maybe September 30 - but I just wanted to mention it for now.

Any questions/suggestions/comments, just let me know!

Robin
