Surplice Bodice Camisole - CO

I have cast on for the Surplice Bodice Camisole. I am not one that likes to seam pieces, but this one is pretty enough to venture that territory. I've also never knit a project in multiple directions as this one calls for, so don't be surprised if I'm not asking y'all for a LOT of help! lol. Stay tuned.....

Possible Fitting Disaster

I know I haven't posted for a long time about the Surplice Bodice Camisole, mainly because I was putting off sewing the upper bodice pieces together, then was putting off picking up the stitches around the armhole and neck, etc.

I just finished the lace on the back section and now I realize I have a possible fitting disaster on my hands.

Check this out - it fits the same way on me, but here it is on the dressform:

I don't know if you can tell from the picture or not, but the top of the bodice almost, but not quite, covers "the girls" and the armholes are tighter than I'd like (I pinned one side to see how it would fit.)

Here's the back after redoing the lace. The lace itself now looks good, but I'm not sure it's wide enough across the back in the upper bodice section. 8407 002

I measure 33.5", and I made the 31.5" size because I thought this top shouldn't be too loose, in order to create the "holding up the girls" effect discussed in the book (said much more nicely, LOL.) I'm using Elann Callista yarn, a linen blend. I was thinking maybe if I wet-blocked it it will relax somewhat. I was thinking of doing so before I do the front lace, so I know if I should invest any more time in this project or if I should rip.

Thoughts? Any and all are appreciated!! Thanks!

Surplice Bodice Cami Progress

I am surprised at how fast this is going - I finished the back yesterday and started and finished the right front in just a few hours.

I hadn't realized that the bust darts are actually yarn overs (HOLES!) so there is no way I would have worn this without a cami - which makes me feel better about my decision to go with Elann Callista. It is creating fabric that is just a little drapey and see-through, but even if it wasn't I wouldn't have worn it without anything under it b/c of the yarn overs on the top. The bottom part wouldn't have bothered me.

Quick Picture-Less Post

I decided to go with the Surplice Bodice Camisole for my first project and I cast on for the back with Elann Callista on Sunday.  So far, so good - even though the yarn is recommended to be knit at 22 stitches to 4 inches vs. the 18 stitches to 4 inches for the pattern, it is not really that "holey" at the larger gauge. It has a lot of drape to it as well and the Callista has a little bit of a shine to it.  I'll take a picture once I have more done - I have almost 3" done now.  One small "beef" on this one - looks like there is a lot of picking up involved - not my favorite knitting trick - but it is worth it b/c it's so cute!

Shaped Lace Tee or Surplice Bodice Camisole First?

Hi everyone - I am soooo excited about starting tomorrow!! I have yarn for two patterns, and am not sure which I want to start first. I have wayyy more than this that I want to do eventually, but I'll start here as I do have yarn for these two. It took everything in me not to go on over to WEBS and buy yarn for about five more designs, but I'm trying to control myself, especially as I'm doing the dual KAL over at the Sexy Knitters Club and am still doing a bunch more designs from Fitted Knits. Anyway, I asked this on my blog too, but I want to hear what you all think:

Lace Shaped Tee (a/k/a Krista) in Cascade Pima Tencel 62907 001 62907 005

or Surplice Bodice Camisole in Elann Callista? 62907 002 62707 001

ETA: All of the categories are now in!!

As there haven't really been that many posts so far, I can classify the ones made to date. But if you get there first, feel free to categorize your own posts - and definitely do this going forward, once I have everything set up in the Category dropdown list. This will make it so much easier for people to find helpful info about the pattern(s) they've chosen to knit.  Note too that you can assign multiple categories to a post like I just did on this one.

Getting excited, and can't wait to hear which design you think I should knit first!!!

Possible Yarn Substitute

I just bought a ball of Elann's Callista as a potential yarn substitute for Classic Elite Interlude (linen and silk blend) on the Surplice Bodice Camisole.  It has a nice smooth feel to it, but I haven't swatched with it yet.  Much more economical if it works!!

Feel free to create new posts about other possible yarn substitutes!
